We’re back for round two! Grab your mates and head on down to The Toombul Bowls Club for an event that is one part pub-chorus, one part open-mic opera (and all parts a great time).
So what is Barefoot Opera?
Barefoot Opera is all about bringing together opera singers (and opera lovers) in a supportive environment where you get a chance to learn an opera chorus together (taught by our amazing conductor Kylie Los), air out that solo you’ve been working on and cheer as loud as possible for your fellow singers as they bravely take the stage. We provide the pianist and the venue, you bring yourself, your voice and some friends to sing an absolute banger of an opera chorus or two. Think a pub choir, but with opera!
Who can attend?
Absolutely anyone! You, your Mum, your Uncle’s Cousin twice removed. You get the idea.
P.S. You don’t have to be a singer, just someone that enjoys opera.
How much does it cost?
This event is a “pay what you can” event, where the price of the ticket is up to you. We believe experiences like this should not be prohibited by cost. You’ll find a link to purchase tickets below, they’ll be available for purchase on the day too.
When and where is it?
2pm on the 21st of July at the fabulously retro Toombul Bowls Club, 70 Flower St, Northgate. Doors open at 1:30pm for a 2pm start.
Will food and drink be available?
The bistro will be open as well as the bar for non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages. We recommend getting there early to take advantage of this, or even have a cheeky bowl.
How do I register to sing a solo piece?
Got something you need to air out? We’ll provide the accompanist, you just need to register via the form here and send through your sheet music. On the day, the order of singers will be randomly assigned.
How does it work on the day?
Step 1. Purchase a ticket below and come along to the Toombul Bowls Club on Sunday arvo (21st of July) with some mates.
Step 2. Enjoy the retro atmosphere, grab some food and a cheeky drink or two. You can even have a bowl whilst you’re there
Step 3. Let us take you through an opera chorus to get you warmed up.
Step 4. If you’re feeling brave, get up and sing your heart out. We’ll all be cheering you on!
Step 5. Go home on a high with another rollicking chorus to end the evening.
