How it all started…
Originally formed by two passionate performers, Leslie Martin and Luisa Tarnawski, Springboard Opera was an idea created over many cups of coffee and long hours of debate. More than just an opera company, the two founders wanted to create a community of opera lovers who could spread the joy of the art form to the world, as well as provide much needed opportunities to emerging artists seeking to start their careers. Along the way they picked up some fellow crusaders for the arts, and began the journey of establishing a profit-for-purpose organisation that reflected their values, in their home town of Brisbane.

Springboard Opera reinvents opera experiences for all, in unexpected, inspiring ways whilst providing a platform through which emerging artists can advance their craft. Believing in the transformative value of music, we aim to unite performers and audiences alike in productions that benefit all involved.

Opera for all! - From performers to audiences, Springboard Opera strives to remove barriers to access and participation. No matter your age, gender, nationality, socioeconomic background or different-ability, you should be able to enjoy opera.
Innovate deliberately. - We strive to transform the opera idea, by bringing a fresh perspective to an artform that has a rich history. We don't shy away from using unconventional methods and technology to bring life to stories and music, but do it in a way that enhances the experience and pays homage to the incredible skill that performers take years to develop.
Use our voices for good. - The arts provide an opportunity to address important social issues that affect our communities, as such we will use our voice responsibly when portraying these difficult concepts.
